How to tell if car is 455 or not
Hi Guys,
Got me a 1970 Cutlass Supreme 2 DR holiday. How can I tell if it has the 455 motor? is there an easy way? The VIN does not help. Any suggestions?
I have attached a pic of my car
Thanks
Don

Did you buy the car not knowing what engine was in it or do you think the previous owner is wrong or didn't know? Like fun71 said about the number and also 455 eng were blue from factory otherwise it would be gold for a 350 unless repainted of course. The cylinder heads will have letters on the bottom left corners opposed to numbers for the 350. There are other ways to tell also but this should verify. Show us a pic.

Well, actually, the ONLY way to tell is by looking at the casting number... (well, without disassembling the motor or using a displacement tester).
By the way, that displacement tester tool is only $1,100. I'm thinking I'd look at the casting number.

Yes its a 455 Motor original to car and tranny matches . I traded a boat for it so I did pretty good I have added from Disc to car Deleted the non working AC system ( will be adding VIntage Air) Nice set of centerline rims a new Aluminum 4 Core radiator. New exhaust had to return the Hedders as they would not fit ended up resurfacing the Manifolds and running 3" exhaust . Thanks for feedback

Your VIN should have a U or a V in it if the engine original to the car was a 455
