ID'ing a 455 BB?

I've got a '69 C20 pickup that currently has an Olds 455 Big Block in it. I'm a Chevy guy so I'm unfamiliar with the #'s on the Olds motors.
Where's the best place (assuming on the block) to ID it? Hoping at least to find what it originally came out of...

Thanks,

Kevin

There is nothing on an Olds motor that will tell you exactly what it came out of, though the casting numbers and VIN derivative will give you a clue. You'll find the VIN derivative here. The second character is the model year from 1968-1976.

The block casting number (which will be either 396021 F or 396021 FA) is located above the water pump.

The head casting letter is located here. There will also be a six digit casting number above the center two exhaust ports.

Let us know what you find.

Joe,
Thanks for the info.
The truck is located out west (Vegas), so I had my brother check and it appear the # 396021F is on the front of the block. I've asked him to check the left front (for partial VIN). I'll let you know what he comes up with.

Thanks,

Kevin

Vegas is up north, not out west.
