I've been busy painting the 425 in my 66 Dynamic. Nothing like this to open your eyes to a lot of details you've missed in the past. One thing I've noticed are what appears to be vent holes in the intake manifold. There is one on each side: between the 2 and 4 cylinder, and between the 5 and 7 cylinder. What is the purpose of these holes?
About once every couple of months, someone "discovers" these casting pockets and freaks out. The engine has been running for what - half a century? They are just casing pockets. Keep in mind that when designing a casting, it is desirable to minimize large discontinuities in thickness. This is nothing, just part of the design. Don't lose any sleep over it.
Joe, your knowledge on these machines is almost endless. Thanks for the explanation. I wasn't losing any sleep; just curious. You would not believe this Dynamic 88 of mine. It rules the streets.....
