What is the depth of drill hole needed in the crank for a 4 speed input shaft?
Hey guys,
I recently purchased a 1965 400 short block from 66-3X2 442. He helped me with the shipping which made it cost effective to buy it from him. I'm very pleased with the transaction and am now putting together an engine for my 1965 442. One question I came up against, his motor doesn't have a pilot bearing in it, but the back of the crank has a deeper hole than most of the automatic cranks I've seen. The center of the hole is about 0.80 deep. What I'm wondering is how deep must this hole be for the transmission input shaft to not hit the crank? I could put something together in the garage to try and figure it out, but hoped someone here might already know the depth needed?

Huh, imagine that, I forgot about that post
Thanks Pat! It looks like the crank I have isn't deep enough yet.
Brian, I was hoping I wouldn't have to drill this one deeper as it looked deeper than most automatic cranks I've come across. Oh well, I want to do it right the first time and not have to do it a second!!! John
