I have a olds engine with starting numbers of 557, i believe & a ending letter of B. what block is this? I dont have more info yet as the pics didnt turn out very well so i thiught this might be something the olds gods can give some info on, thanks.

 

That would be a 1965 400 engine, used only in the 1965 442. If the heads are still on it they should be "A" castings, then look at the front of one of the heads to see stamped numbers. This is the engine code and the 442 heads started with the letter "V". Nice find! These engines are kinda scarce. Is it complete? John

 

Blu the numbers on it though dont coincide with what i've seen for 65 400's. Although i like the idea of it being a 65 it doesnt seem to mesh. Thanks blu.

 

What are the numbers on it? The only big block that I know of is the 1965, are you sure its a big block? I'm starting to think the 403 or later 350 had a large number with a B... but it's getting late. I'm not sure I'm remembering that right John

#'s are starting with 557 couldnt make out the rest or at least till i get it into my shop. The seller said someone told him its a 350 small block? dont know thats why i'm posting thanks.

 

found it, its a 1980-77 350 specify for Eldorado 557523 "B" not quite the find at all but now i know, thanks for your inputs.
