Water Pump Confusion

I'm working on a '70 455 out of a 442. I have two water pumps with code 400269 on them. One is a 256 date, the other is 237. At least one source I have seen identifies these as correct for my car. Others identify them as 68-69 400 & 455 pumps. Can anyone sort this out for me?

The 400269 water pump is for '68 and '69 400 & 455 engines with A/C or heavy duty cooling, as well as for the W30, W32 & Hurst Olds.

The correct water pump for a '70 455 with heavy duty cooling or A/C (also W30) has a casting number of 404847. The water pump used without A/C or heavy duty cooling was 404584.

The 269(68-69) and the 847(70) are "dimensionally" the same(height). That is why they may be listed for a similar application

I've had a VERY ORIGINAL '70 W30 motor here in the recent past that had a 269 pump on it (motor was pulled from the car prior to '72 and all other parts were original/correct). My bet is it's fine and they possibly used up the inventory and then switched to the 847 pumps.

Thanks for all the replies. My car was built in Fremont so, as suggested, I wonder if they were just slow in using up pump inventory
