Valvetrain noise

Hi all.

So I've got about a 1000 miles on 455 rebuild. My question is that I've started noticing a slight ticking noise when driving. It doesn't always happen but when it does it happens just before engine comes down to idle like around a 1000 rpm. And on for a brief moment. Pulled valve covers and checked everything and reset lash but everything was just fine. Could I possibly have a bad hydraulic lifter?

Brad penn 20w50
At operating temp idle is 25psi and driving is 50psi

You might run through you valve lash again. 20/50 is a bit thick for a fresh rebuild. Shoot Mark, cutlassefi a pm and ask him about your setup. He's pretty good about answering questions.

Something in the rotating assembly? An RPM specific noise sounds like something that is turning.

Hi -I had a valve train noise in my 455 last year, my engine had less than 500 miles on it, I had adjusted the valves several times, same thing, changed my header gaskets, same, pulled the motor back out and brought it back to my machine shop-he tor the engine down, nothing, until he was reassembling, in the intake there were these metal plugs to close off the heat passages, one was loose causing a exhaust leak in my intake, removed them no issues for a year now, carl

Yeah I was wondering about my heat crossovers considering that they are plugged .

That valve train noise drove me crazy- it wasn't the lifers bleeding down or the push rods hitting the guide plates- or a oil pressure problem -I must have had the valve covers off 10 times -they are metal plugs that came from mondello before the thin metal gaskets that are used now. One of them was loose.

I asked the guy that did the heads and he said he melted old pistons and filled them. But either way drove it about 50 miles after readjusting rockers and no more ticking.
