Valve Cover Leaks

I know this has prolly been asked and answered a few hundred times in here, but my search didn’t specifically answer my problem. Rocket Racing valve covers and speedmaster aluminum heads. Can’t for the life of me get a good seal and i am certain it’s me. I’ve used ultra seal, edelbrock and the once from rocket racing still get seeps, drips, etc.

455 engine

Appreciate the help

Thanks,

Try the Cometic gaskets, a copy of the discontinued Felpro Permadry with a rigid carrier and rubber sealing beads. I had issues with the cheap chrome valve covers and the Edelbrock version of the MT aluminum valve covers. I had either use straight RTV or the Permadry gaskets. I have minor seepage with the Rocket Racing gaskets on factory valve covers. I still had leaking with Permadry and the Edelbrock aluminum valve covers. I used Optimum Grey on the valve cover side, problem fixed. It is much less visible than other RTV and very strong. Check both with a straight edge, maybe one or both surfaces are warped, good luck.

I would keep it simple, just go with some thick cork gaskets. Glue them to the valve cover with weather strip cement and leave dry to the head.

Above. Would check both sides with straight edge. On a side note! Is that the new Edelbrock vrs-4150 Carb?? If so what CFM and how you like it?

The cometics are working great for me. Edelbrock heads and thick cast GM valve covers. I have tried about everything over the last 40+ years..

Thanks for the reply’s, good advice and well give them a try.

highwaystar 442 - this is the new edelbrock carb and i love it. I am officially done with Holley products, had 2 quick fuel carbs that were nothing but problems. Cutlassfi mention the edelbrock to me as he has built a few engines for me. I bought it and out of the box what a difference. Very little tuning, but super easy. No choke on it, but i live in FL so no biggie. It’s the 850 cfm

I got the cometic and used a little 3m black on the valve cover side and dry to the head. Problem solved. They are 100% dry. I like how they compress and give a good tight feel.

My go to gaskets from here on out.
