Throttle Linkage Trouble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone have some pictures of the throttle linkage for their Quadrajet?

I just switched from a 2 barrel to a 4 barrel and the spot on the carb where the linkage would connect is different on the 4 barrel.

The 2 barrel throttle linkage was just bent at the carb end with a bushing and a cotter pin.

The 4 barrel looks like it should have a hole on the end of the rod with a "C" clip/

That is totally the wrong carb for a '66 98 but it could be made to work if you were to drill a hole through the plate to insert the bent linkage. What are you going to use for fuel line? The input location on that carb is not in the correct location to use an original hard line. If you can wait a day or so, I can run some pictures. Bruce

It never had a hard line cause the idiot who owned it before me put a 2bbl on cut the line and ran rubber fuel line. So I was just going to do the same.

I was thinking about removing the uper nipple as its held in by a nut and drilling out the hole to the correct diameter. The only other issue is I don't think the rod is long enough.

Ugh, what a mess.
I had a throttle box rod from a 69 here in the garage somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.
I'd consider using a cable setup. The more you modify and weld on that rod and connect it to the improper carb linkage, the greater risk you have of the throttle sticking open.

Do you have the brace that goes on the intake for the kickdown switch assembly? It appears to be missing from the picture. You must use this else the switch could break....talking from experience here...

Yeah I have the brace. I was painting the bracket for it when the picture was taken.

The real **** off is I specified I wanted one for an olds and they sent me this. I just can't be bothered to wait another 2 weeks for a replacement.

As far as the rod goes I will most likely just make a new threaded section.

It's for an Olds just the wrong year. That sucks when people sell you the wrong parts.

The correct style carb should have a divorced choke. The choke sits on the square recess on the intake and a little rod works the choke flap on the carb. What manifold are you using? Aftermarket or cast iron?

Since you arent going original I would have selected a Holley spreadbore carb.....A lot of people dislike the Holley but I got good performance with one on my 66 Delta daily driver. It was a quadrajet replacement 650cfm double pumper with mechanical secondaries and hot air choke. Went for years without any problems.

So would a throttle cable from a newer 68-69 work for this application????

I am not sure as the 66 used what you have and a rod and gas pedal linkage. Later years used the cable with a different gas pedal assembly and no provision for the switch pitch and trans kickdown. I am sure what you have will work, make a new rod and possibly make a hole for it at carb if necessary or get a different carb.

Be weary of that plug. It can rattle out and start the car on fire. I'd pull it, tap it, and thread in a plug.

Any advice on how I could make a new throttle linkage for this setup. I have a few ideas and have been looking at aftermarket link kits but just figured I would ask as someone must have done something similar.

If it were me, a new/longer steel rod can be made. Thread one end as the old one and screw on the 2bbl fitting with ball adapter and the other end can be whatever you like to adapt to that carb. If you can see the stock 4bbl rod has an offset because the 4bbl carb is wider than the 2bbl.

SO I finished making a new throttle linkage. Figured I would post some pictures to see what you guys thought. Total cost was $6 start to finish. Found a new ball joint end & 1/4 steel rod at the local hardware store. Threaded both ends 1/4-28 and presto change-o this is what I got.

Any idea what the sizes of the fuel line fittings for the carb & fuel pump are? The original were mangled by the people that put the 2BBL on and I want to go get a new line made.

It looks great. My only question is, "does the throttle open all the way when you put the pedal to the floor? If so, it's perfect.
