Question Shopping for 71 "H" Heads...

I have found a couple of contacts but not sure what the going rate is for these extinct heads these days...I have also heard of some repros out there, anyone seen these yet?

Didn't even know about them till you asked. I looked them up. Here's a link for you to reference: http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/cgi-b...=9970399476565

Good luck with your search. I understand these things are extremely hard to come by.

From other heads depending on the condition you will have to pony up some cash. Prices are down but I would think 2500 on the high end and down form there depening condition. F heads have from what I have seen hover right in that area , there are some D heads out there that have been for sale for over a year in the 3800 range but if they want to sell them they will have to get the price in the mid 2 k range JMI from what I have seen

H-heads are the rarest. It will still take at least $5,000.00 to buy a set.In the last few months there have been some that exchanged hands in the $5500.00 range. There are also only 2 dates that they were cast.247 and 336.I am sure about the 336,but the 247 might be 257,don't remember.I know it was the mid-200's.
The Parts Place tried to do a run of repops a few years ago,but they couldn't get enough orders to do a run. They were offering them with any letter you wanted on them.

Ahh, that explains why the repos are pretty close to the same price as the OEMs in core form...

If I remember correctly, when they tried to get interest to do a run of repop heads, the price was going to be $2500.00/pr.Yes?

I think Brians price of 5K -5500 are at the low end..
There's no $2500 H heads around. If so, it's a mistake.
anyone has some for sale, let me know..

Great question, but I don't think it will get an accurate answer. The info I have says that 442 production in 71 was 3688 hardtops and 3731 convertibles. IIRC all 442s in 71 came with 455s. The W30 had the 455 that was rated at 360 gr hp. The others were 340hp. So the H heads were a select group of motors.

I'm positive Olds didn't keep the stats that are being asked for, unfortunately.

920 W30s were made in 1971 and I'd bet there were plenty of extra h-heads made but what would that equal a total of 1000 H heads total

If you can't find any after an extensive search,I would consider selling mine, but I should probably contact a few others that inquired about them previously. The only thing done to mine is the heat risers were filled, but I do that to all my other heads anyway. We don't drive these in the winter anymore. It helps keep the intake cooler.

I would consider selling mine too. I'm using it on my 442 vert. I think it's time to get aluminum heads.

Thank You!

Thank you both for offering up your H heads, I think I'm going to go with the Mondello repros, claim to flow as well as Edelbrock heads, come completey done and I was able to get a deal including the 71 repro W-30 intake port matched to the heads for less than the cost of most H OEM cores I have found!

After I finish a current project, I plan to make a set of H heads out of the Ga's that refuse to sell.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Oldsmobile-4...413c67&vxp=mtr

will freshen with a valve job touchup, or machine for larger intakes if the buyer desires.

The casting number is but one digit off, easy change. Price will be somewhat higher after the conversion and valve job.

If you are referring to the old Mondello's in Paso Robles, run into thr ground by Lynn,I would not believe a word of that, but good luck, and stock up on some aspirin.

Talking

He can buy Edelbrock or Procomp aluminum heads. Hell there's even a guy willing to make knockoffs. The only difference being one casting number.
