Running 455 - 460HP - Worth $

If one has a running 455 engine in a vehicle, with forged pistons, Eagle rods, nodular crank, iron C ported heads, hydraulic cam, making around 460HP (crank) with great oil pressure. What would something like that be worth if sold as a running engine? $4k or more?

I will give you $500 you pay shipping! Cash

imo yesits worth that 4k.

for me i would need to recent receipts, see it running maybe go for a ride, do a comp test, a run stand would also be acceptable.

if its an old build and i cant see it run, no comp test etc then the price drops fast.

someone is always looking for a good engine. I spent about two years looking for a good drop in BBO. I never found one, i picked up 2 cores (~$500 each) and had the better one rebuilt and sold the other one.

sometimes it can take a little while to sell something like, logistics, budgets, priorities etc.

So if it was in a running vehicle and it can be driven & tested. Can one get $4k - $8k for it?

That's a large range.

A basic rebuilt, well running 455 with aluminum heads should get around $4k depending on accessories that may be included. $8k is a dream, even if "I spent well over that to have it built."

Lol you started at 4k i think thats doable 8k seems unlikely, someone w 8k is much more likely to have their engine built for them.

of course you can start at any price you like but i believe 4k is a realistic achievable number.

Hi,

Where was this a year and a half ago?

I had one built with the same power level iron "C" heads forged pistons and Eagle rods, Nodular crank, it cost a lot more than the 8 grand mark.

If you have documentation and maybe a dyno sheets on the motor, I would think 4 grand not a issue, 8 would be that person who doesn't want to wait, mine took a year after parts delays and covid bs.

Good luck with the sale

Regards,
Jim

I am just trying to see a price range on what it could sell for. A running engine in a vehicle is an easier sell than one on a stand which makes sense.

It's not inexpensive to even rebuild a 455 Olds. Some people would prefer a running engine vs trying to rebuild one from scratch.

The best thing to do is to place a classified ad with an asking price to start and periodically lower it down until it sells.

Very good point, and a receipt to prove it.
