Purchased my first BB 455.. Good deal?

I have my 403 build coming along nicely for my 1974 omega. Then while surfing Craigslist I came across a 455 olds for $300..

It was in a JET BOAT the guy purchased and they guy knew nothing about olds (I do not know much either) and wanted a chevy 454 instead, Hard core chevy/harley guy..

I heard this thing run.. It was too loud lol..
It has "H" heads which have been rebuilt with comp cam guide plates, comp cams roller rockers, comp pushrods, comp double valve springs,High comp pistons, Brand new Edelbrock cam in the box and whatever cam is in the engine, mallory unilite distributor with mallory coil, Torker 455 aluminum manifold, Unidentified Carter carb, BASSET stainless polished headers wih water injection,Hardin marine valve covers and Hardin water pump block off plate. Edelbrock nice finned air cleaner.

I have not the slightest clue why I bought it , I thought it was a good deal I guess. I will NOT put this in my Omega, so I guess I have to hunt down another olds shell or sell it. I vote Olds shell!!

That was a good deal.
I'd have purchased it too.
If I remember correctly. "H" heads are 1971 W-30 Big valve heads, and very rare.
Maybe even worth $2000 to the right person.
Don't get your hopes up yet, let's see what others have to say.

I'd sell those heads, make some money for the 403, and then mail the short block to (J-(Chicago) if I were in your shoes.

WOW.. Thats great to hear !! I have good luck with heads, I guess oldsmobile stuff in general.. I got my #5 ones for free on a edelbrock manifold buy on Craigslist also. I found ANOTHER new edelbrock manifold at Pick N Pull on a shell 73 omega.

The engine is not "pretty" the block and heads were painted black and was in a Jet boat, so dont expect a Fresh show quality engine lol..
I have some snapshots of it. I have to load up.I have to use my brother PC and MAIL them to myself because my PC does not take media for some reason.. I even took the valve covers off and shot the guide plates and roller gear. I even got some with those HUGE basset headers on it lol. I looked up the basset headers and the are $1000 by themselves!! WOW.. No use to me though..

I WAS going to strip it for parts(cams, dist, comp cams valvetrain, etc..) and use them on my 403 or 350. Why would those heads be worth more than any other 455 head ?

If it is truly a find I will just have the thing redone and sell it.. Maybe I can fund another Oldsmobile (really want a cutlass) out of my $300 (well $350 I had to buy another stand) LOL.. I hope so..

Sounds like all the good stuff is in the Marine use engines.I should keep my eyes peeled in the boat section on craigslist. I know those jet boat guys are super crazy gearheads.

What engine are D heads off of ? 455?

EDIT: I just checked the boat section check it out lol..

x2

I am happy with my 350, but if I found a 455 like that I would definitely shove it into my Cutlass. Good luck finding a "donor" shell!

LOL!! Good find 74Omega.I think I may have seen that one on san francisco craigslist and actually thought about getting it.I'm glad to see someone from this site got to it first. My 455 is already in the process of being built though.I scored mines from craigslist too for $300.running and everything with all the accesories on it.
I also bought those D heads that j chicago was talking about. They were beautiful too.The guy had them on a speed boat and was letting everything go for dirt cheap.Unfortuneatly I don't have them anymore. They were pretty much sold before I got them to my garage.I just didn't know it yet.
