Pros and Cons

Good morning, I have a dilemma that I am trying to work through. I have a 1980 Chevy Pickup that has an Olds 350 in it. I twas converted from the diesel. I also have a 454 from a previous Chevy truck that I am getting rebuilt that I am probably going to stuff in my truck. My issue is should I just go with at 455 and sell both motors? It seems as though it would be a much easier conversion or should I go with the 454 since I already have it. Either way I will get some work done on both motors.

I know this is an olds forum but I am trying to figure out the scope of work to convert the the bbc. I really think it is cool to have the Olds motor in it now.

The 455 Olds will be an easier swap. Whether or not this is the right choice depends on what you plan to do with the truck. If you plan to sell it, the Chevy motor will bring a higher price.

And the 455 will have better low end torque than the BBC, all things being equal. Lighter weight, and far easier to swap into the truck (as equipped now). The transmission won’t fit the Chevy engine, the motor mounts will need to be changed, plus lots of little things that won’t directly swap.
