Question Ping under WOT

Hey all,

I just removed the points and installed a MSD Blaster 2 coil and Pertronix ignitor (Lobe sensor) in my '69 Ninety-Eight with a 455.

Car starts better and runs fine, except under WOT. If I keep it to 1/2 pedal or less, no problem at all. If I get on it (WOT) at any RPM I hear a slight pinging. I didn't change my timing when I installed the Pertronix.

From what I read the vacuum advance should not be an issue - so my question is: do I need to change the mechanical advance springs, or just lower the initial timing? (I read that lowering initial timing should fix it, but at the expense of power and MPG)

Thanks in advance,

Karl

When you installed the Pertronix the timing was changed. Set the timing and you should be good to go.

Definately need to reset the timing after installing the pertronic as mentioned by MN71W30. Likely too far advanced now that the pertronix can control the coil faster.

Thanks guys - I backed it down and no problem. I lost a bit of off throttle response, but I can dial it in this weekend.
