Picked up a 455 - Now what?
A couple questions.
All my Accessories from my 71' 350 will bolt right up correct? Car is AC and power steering.
The seller couldnt find the flywheel. Will my 350 flywheel fit, and will it be the same balance?
The distributor that is in it I think is HEI. It has a 3prong connector coming out of the base that connects to the cap, and 2 spade connectors on the cap. How can i tell if this requires electronic ignition or not?
Finally, exhaust - I will be buying headers for the motor. Is it possible to drop the motor in with the headers attached? or drop motor in then install headers.

All your accessories should work.
Yes, the T350 flex plate will work, it only goes on 1 way.
There is a 2 prong plug you can buy for the power and tach connection. All the Hei needs full battery power at the batt terminal on the cap. The 3 terminal plug stays where it's hooked up.
It's easier to install the headers after the engine is installed.

Thanks for the info. I plan on keeping my TH350 to simplify the swap as i dont plan on making any rediculous power. Motor is .020 over, mild cam, torker intake and edelbrock carb. Should my TH350 last?

Any way to determine the compression of the motor without pulling the heads? The motor came out of this car, but i cant find anymore information about the motor then what is posted on the mecum site

I think i am going to pull the pan and see if I can determine what pistons, and pull a head to get them cc'ed. I would like to determine actual CR so that i can have cutlassefi grind me a cam. Also, can i unbolt the torque converter, and just push the converter into the trans and leave it in there and pull the motor?

Measure the dish diameter and approx depth. You can use a graduated ruler. I'll bet they're the small dish federal mogul pistons. Cast, short and have fat rings but they'll work.
