If it's just grooved from the seal they have balancer repair sleeves to fix that.
If it is bad it may be less expensive to have it rebuilt.
The Parts Place has new GM timing chain covers for all '64-'81 V8's if that would work? The catalog says '64-'73 V8's are the same, beats me.
May be able to find those around at other places.
