overheating

Ok. One more question about the infamous overheating 455. Soaked the dry block in mild acid, back flushed it with high pressure. The carb and*timing*are dead on. No thermo stat in right now. High quality four row r radiator 18 inch 8 blade fan, shroud, new hoses , new 16 llbs cap. Going down the road it runs about 180 at about a 70 deg ambient. At idle it will do over 220 if I let. Oil pressure about 20 at idle and 50 cruising. Thank y'all.

Is it developing pressure?

Does the fan clutch work?

I've never seen an 8-blade fan - where did you get it?

Why no thermostat?

overheating

Almost12 psi

Fan clutch is brand new and performing well.
Fan is custom made by Taft Ind. 8 blades, somewhat radical pitch.

Just had it out to verify flow. Great.
Shroud is custom made since they didn't make them for that model.Just idled it for 2 hours no higher than200.will post soon what all
I did. Time won't let me right now. Thank y'all

If it took 2 hours to get to 220@idle, put a thermostat in it and you are good to go.

Sounds great!

I think we're all interested in how you fixed it.

adle brained

I don't remember what all I wrote about my overheating 455 in my 66 Cutlass but it is doing great. If anybody has any questions I will be glad to answer them. I don't really know which part of the fix did the best but I really believe it was the vinegar flushes. I got tons of sludge out of the block. Thank y'all for all of your input. This is a great site.
