Oil pump pick up to oil pan clearance on 455 street build

Measured the pick-up screen to oil pan clearance using clay , looks to be about 1/2 " is that too much ? Running a Thorton 5 qt pan / melling high volume pump.

THX in advance

1/2" should be ok if it was with the gasket ? Is the screen perfectly level or tilted some ? Most of them have some tilt and its hard to get them exact.

I always set my pickup screen to 1/4" at lowest point; that's measured without gasket in place. If using a "press in" pickup, recommend tack weld to hold it in place.

This is what I have always done, based on advice from far more knowledgeable people.

I shoot for 1/4". As Bill stated, 1/2" should be fine.
