Oil Pan Leaks

Olds 455 --irritating oil leak near the back of the oil pan...

What is the best gasket to use?

Is it necessary to raise the engine slightly to get the pan off and properly cleaned?

You will probably have to take out the motor mount bolts and lift the engine in order to let the front of the pan come down enough to clear the crank. I know this is true of a 455 in a G body, Not sure on earlier vintage ones. As far as which gaskets to use I'm not sure but be absolutely sure you degrease the sealing surface. I would probably reccomend that you use silicone gasket maker at the gasket joints, ie. rubbers at each end where they meet the side gaskets. Make sure you dont have a main seal problem. Olds does make a 2-piece main seal that is easy to install with the crank still in. Good luck
