NOS intakes

scored two nos intakes on a W-31 and the other a Edelbrock o4b I tripped on the w 31 wasnt looking for one . The o4b I have been looking for a nice q jet multi bolt intake for 4 plus years . The shipping tag on the box ties me in so well to this I use to work with race horses and the Hurst came form the same area was the cherry on top

Do both designs of the W-31 intake have the same casting number?

I think you would have to kick in a LOT of extra on that trade.

Last time seen NOS W31 intake- yawn, a month or 2 ago.

Last time seen used, any at all '69 H/O intake- many years ago.
Almost "never"

What is the date on the bottom of the W-31 intake? Is it a 74 date?

Nice find!! Both are really hard to come by and many people dont realize what kind of torque you can get with the o4b! The W31 is really nice!

Since I saw the post above about a 69 hurst olds intake, I know personally of one that sold for 16,500 dollars! Yes that was sixteen thousand. Last year in Tampa! Unbelievable.

I almost bought an O4B intake at homecoming a few years ago. I didn't because it doesn't work too well with HEI's

HAHA as I was typing this at work, my test results came back xx.442

Oldsmobile did another run of W-350 intakes in 74 and sold them over the counter. Most if not all of the NOS W-31 intakes I have seen are the 74 dated versions and have completely different casting number than the original 69-70 production run intakes. Early intakes have casting #406114 and later intakes are casting #407571.

Hi Shane, yes the Hurst Olds did spend many years in the Tacoma area, and may have even been sold new there. Did you ever have any luck tracking down the guy I bought it from back in '81 or so? Nice score on the intakes! I remember Doug's Racing Stables very well, bought some stuff there myself back in the 80's. It was the go-to speed shop for a lot of years, and many of the auto parts stores in the region bought from them, as I believe they were also a performance parts wholesaler. Very cool!

I have also measured the ports of 3 early(69 dated) intakes and 2 of the 74 dated intakes. The 74 intakes have measurably smaller ports so apparently they made a completely new mold for the later intakes.

Joe, the 69 dates I have documented so far are:
8-8-69
8-11-69
8-13-69
8-16-69
8-21-69
8-22-69
8-27-69
8-28-69

I seem to remember some early September 69 date but did not get the date written down.

4-16-70

The 74 dates I have are:

11-19-74
11-20-74
Possibly 11-18-74 but was almost impossible to read.

I believe there are at least 2 70 dates but I can't remember what they were. I think Brian Trick might have the 70 date codes.

Firefrost, sorry hijacking your thread
Joe, cool pics, added those dates and also found another date of 8-27-69 searching CO. I have the measurements as 1.95"-2.0" for the 69 dated intakes.

I once met the owner of a local speed shop who said he used to work at Olds in Lansing. He remembers sending truckloads of extra alimunim intake manifolds (W-30 and -31, not 1980s) to be melted down for scrap.

No doubt. I myself witnessed a semi load of brand new gold/chrome SSII 15" wheels come in for scrap.

Thanks, GM. I'll return that favor.

Lots of great info. There was a NOS O4B at homecoming. I think he wanted something like $400.00 for it.
