Need your opinion on heads choice please.
For a hot street car what heads would be better.
Edelbrock 60519 brand new $1600. Or Ka heads ported and polished by Joe Mondello $800 used? The bottom end would be pretty much stock with a agressive but streetable cam and edelbrock performer manifold or maybe the edelbrock rpm air gap. Compression between 9.5 - 10.1. Also is there anything different about Ka heads being used in a car?

The Edelbrocks like any aftermarket aluminum head, needs to be checked out before bolting on. A friend just bought a pair and the chambers varied from 77-81 ccs on one head. That head wasn't flat either. This probably wouldn't make much difference on the average street motor though.

You may save money with the edelbrocks compared to fully working a set of irons (valve job, surfacing, guides, etc.). However, you can run stock rockers on irons, but need roller rockers and studs on the e-brocks. It also seems easier to seal iron heads to the block. As for flow, if it is a street engine and cam, you probably won't see much difference. If in a cold climate, remember the edelbrocks don't have heat risers.

How would these heads compare to the edelbrock heads? They are much cheaper.

I looked at the sales add for ROP members only. Great pricing, this might bring down the cost of the brock heads. I wonder if the fuel pump clears the procomp heads. I got kicked off ROP so I don't cualify for the special price. Don't know why I could not get a mod to answer me.

I just read the post where the combustion chambers varried from 78cc to 81 cc in the same head and that the heads were not even flat. I must say, I'm not surprised. My brother and I have been purchasing Edelbrock equipment since the later part of the '60s, and back in '70 f/ example, a time I remember so well, when my brother had a '58 Corvette w/ a 327/365 in it, he bought an Edelbrock manifold. The finish on the manifold was nice and clean, w/ no seam showing/left trash on the surface that should have been ground off. In those days, the Edelbrock manifolds were very pretty looking and also performed well. I recently bought an Air Gap manifolod f/ my '81 Corvette. After opening the box, I called my brother back home and told him how dissatisfied I was w/ the finish on the manifold, so many places that should have been cleaned up but were just left, looking like a mess. I was pretty much bumbed out. The quality control department there at Edelbrock is hurting IMO. Where is the pride in the workmanship? I personally like things that run to also look good, and Edelbrock has forgotten to take care of their customers to do w/ their components not just performing well but looking good at the same time, and to do w/ the heads, not even being precise enough to maintain constant chamber size across the board. Come on, Edelbrock, you claim the old "made in the USA," how about making the good old USA look good w/ what you turn out, don't make us all look bad.

What's your budget?
Imo the Procomp heads along with an Edelbrock Air gap RPM with a good 800-850 carb, 10.0:1 compression and the right cam will get you 450+hp and well over 500lbft of torque, yet still be very streetable.

I'm just doing it a step at a time. This weekend machine shop will eat up $700-1000. Then I will do the summit racing finance thing for a rebuild kit or maybe even piece a kit for myself about $600-1000 before end of this year. Then January (tax return)I should have my mind made up between edelbrock or procomp heads the Mondello worked ones, E-brock RPM Air Gap, and E-brock or holley 750 - 800 cfm carb, Hooker headers and misc. parts to dress up the 455. I will leave the cam choice for a reliable source. My compression should be 9.75 - 10.0 With 15cc dish KB pistons or maybe I may go forged because a friend of mine wants to install a nitro kit. If anyone has any machine shop tips or anything I may be missing let me know please.

Mark......just curious, anybody running these heads on a running engine? Either on the street or down the track?
