Muffler Recommendations for Full-Size

Hey gang,

I believe one of the mufflers on my black 98 is shot so I'm going to be looking to replace it (if not both) over the winter.

I have Walker mufflers (# 18230) currently and I'm wondering what other options there are for my application. As you can probably imagine from looking at my car, I'm not going for loud.

What do you guys think would be good, affordable, quiet but not overly restricting??

If your happy with the current setup, I'd just go back with them. That would be the most cost effective solution without any mods due to length differences.

If you do change mufflers don't skimp on case length.

I did that on a 72 Toro using some aftermarket mufflers.

Think they were Flo-Pro's.

Ending up having to use resonators to quiet it back down.

Thought my garage was going to rattle apart when I pulled in the first time.

And this is coming from someone who actually wanted it a lil' louder than stock.

I was actually trying to duplicate the sound of the 72 Toro my father had when I was a kid (stock exhaust sans resonators). I thought that car sounded perfect for a Toro.

I presume the longer muffler helps direct the sound to the rear of the car where it belongs. Aftermarket mufflers + reducing the case length + removing the resonators was probably not a good idea. Pretty good chunk of real estate from the mufflers to the rear bumper on a 72 Toro let alone a 76 Ninety Eight. IIRC ... a 76 Ninety Eight has at least @ foot in length over a 72 Toro if not a pinch more.

Thanks guys. I ended up picking one up at Auto Zone last night. I'm glad I called around too. My local store wanted $48, Napa was $46 and Auto Zone was $32! They had one in stock and I grabbed it. Can't wait to rip out that old one and make my baby purr again!

Thanks for the the tips guys!
