More engine problems
Hi All I wrote a post awhile back about a 67 442 the engine was rebuilt in 2007,I was and still have a noisy lifter I took the valve cover off again and but a wire in the push rod to clean it any way I put the cover back on and its still making a lifter noise I take it for a ride after 15 min is stops then it will start tapping again. Well starting last week when I start the car from it sitting a day or so I get a noise out of 1 of the exhaust pipe driver side same side as lifter But the noise that comes from the pipe is like someones hitting the exhaust pipe w/a hammer it does that until it warms up,It smokes blue, this engine was built bored out to 418 I have the parts list I don't know what to do I changed the oil and put 10/40 I was using 20/50 But I have a feeling this is serious I have to find a good mech, in Lexington SC anyone here know anyone Thanks Any help Appreciate Steve after it warms up in sounds and runs great until it feels like tapping?
How many miles since rebuild? I had a noise come on sudden with a pontiac lifter was loud I pulled covers and played with rockers i noticed it seemed like I wasn't getting oil up to them. I changed my filter and oil and noise went away and flow returned . The filter and oil had about 500 mile at most on the 3rd oil change on new motor. Broke cam in oil then , changed then another 200 mile's then changed had like i said maybe 500 at the most on it when the what i think was the filter clogging from what who know, It was a FRAM and have been told they are not the best choice It was all they had at the store. I run the napa gold good luck and hope it works out for you .
No EGR Valve,5 k since rebuilt,I will try to clarified the noise You know how the 2 exhaust pipe sound Well the drivers side is a lit louder that the pass side until the car runs for 5 min This car sounds like a bunch of trotters at a horse track So when its cold the Drivers side is almost like a bang
Very hard to diagnose this type of problem here. Could many things. Could be serious or not... Could even be just an exhaust leak. I think you need local help from a mechanic to solve or perhaps the engine builder if possible.
Sounds like wrong [too loose] clearances with forged pistons, to me, and your number 1 'galled' - rocked enough to move the metal around, increasing the clearances too much, causing 'piston rock'.
I was always told to 'warm-up' an engine with forged pistons, to avoid your situation!
Sounds like it'll have to come apart for inspection.

Theres a Butterfly valve on the cross over exhaust pipe that has some thing to do with routing the exhaust gases under the carb to warm air/fuel.I think its on the pass side check it.It could be flapping open and closed.Makes sense it would stop when warmed up.
Spark Plugs
Hi Guys Here is 2 pictures of the plugs there loaded with carbon no oil on plugs,I adjusted the choke a few month ago must off been to rich ,And changed the plugs, I think that fouled all the plugs to make it run the way it was So I put the old plugs back in and adjusted the Choke and sprayed the carb oil the linkage put some Techron? Cleaner for gas chevron makes it, It started a lot better only smoked for 1/2 min Valve seals no more banging exhaust I think that was the problem. I changed the oil put 20/50 in it no lifter problem since I hope it stays this way Thanks Steve I'm going to ck the floats next few days
An engine builder I knew used to change the oil and filter after 30 min break in, than would cut open the filter for inspection, suprising how much metal was in the filter, than another change at 500 miles. a 1000 than followng regular changes.
