man seeks r&r tips for oil fill neck

Hello -

I'd like to remove the leaking oil fill tube on my 455 and re-install it in a non-leaking fashion. I'd appreciate any tips re: either the removal or the re-install.

I recall that when I built this motor I put red Loctite on the bottom of the fill neck and used a hammer and a piece of 2x4 across the top of the tube to hammer the fill neck as far into the timing shelf as far as I could get it - not nearly enough, as it turned out, as the neck can be rocked back and forth with light hand pressure.

Thank you -

Since it is rocking back and forth, do this and pull upward at the same time. It should come right out. When re-installing, lightly coat the lower surface with black RTV and tap in as you did originally. It should go in about 1 1/2 inches and not rock.

It's not uncommon to cut 1/16 to 1/8 inch off the bottom of the tube so it's crushing fresh metal.
