KA wp pulley for 68-9 OAI

This guy has the entire world's supply

he says so, therefore you can believe him.

I see a repro KM on feepay, ask where's the repro for the KA unit?

The reply:

Dear *the*rocketscientist,

no sense to repo it. i still have 44 oem units

- motorco18013

Uh huh.
Probably has all the Solid Main Web engines too.

Did not know these were rare! I have one on my 72 convertible (came with the car from PO years back). If someone is in need I would likely swap for a KH

I may have a KH in my pulley collection. I would do that swap. Pm me your email and I'll send pics.

CALM DOWN folks

Like I told the seller

"That is just implausible. You may have dozens of KA *power steering* pulleys, but there is zero chance that you have that many ultra rare 68-9 only, OAI only WATER PUMP KA PULLEYS."

KH and KA are codes used on PS Pulleys.
GM had to use KA for both a PS and a WP pulley. Because 26x26 possible letter combinations just didn't provide the elbow room for distinct combinations, right?

Yeah:

Dear motorco18013,
OK, I call bullshed on that one. Maybe you have 44 "KA" power steering pulleys. The KA water pump pulleys are more than a little hard to find. It is frankly not plausible that anyone has dozens of them.

Dear *the*rocketscientist,
Oh. I didn't know that.

Why did they need a special pulley for the OIA cars?
Where they the same pulley with just another number or did they have different spacing and why?
Dose anyone have pictures to compare the standard 69 442 pulley to the KA Pulley?

Due to different water pump used on those cars can send or post a pic of a KE and a KA if you want

Also other pulleys will work of course in absence of that. So a part of it is the special code as well

This guy also tried to argue with me,telling me that there are three different blue interiors for 1970 442,and the color you got was based on the outside color of the car. I kept trying to explain to him that there was a single blue interior, for 1970,that consisted of 3 different shades of blue,in the same interior, but he had no idea what I was talking about, and claims to have never seen a car like that, with a multi-colored blue interior. He just kept asking me what the outside color of the car was.
All I wanted to do was try the mix of blue that he has advertised, but he couldn't even tell me what shade it was,but yet, they supposedly have it made exclusivley for them.

Cool info I had no idea that the W cars used a different water pump as well.
What was the reason for the special water pump?

They were quote as heavy duty and rhe length is 5.5 on shaft so they are longer then your generic non ac or non w car pumps

Aye the HDC package used the longer [for the time] 5.6" WP, which meant that the pulley had to have a deeper form to put the grooves back in line with the other pulleys. Now, there is a deep pulley for the 5.6 WP used later, the KM unit, but its OD differs slightly, so for the purist, it's not correct enough. Different diameter slightly alters the WP speed at a given crank speed.

I do have KE, KM, and KA pulleys to show the differences if need be.

There's NO handy way to reproduce the KA by such voodoo as restamping a KM, either.

For 68/69 OIA higher learning that would be cool and a useful tool for the uneducated.

YES YES I know this thread is a million years old

I stumbled upon this “KA” water pump pulley. It also has S stamped in the bottom side. How can I tell if this pulley is real or re-stamped?
