Intake for 70 OAI hood

Sorry if this question has been asked 1000 times, but I searched the threads and found little.

I have a 69 442 that I am putting a 70 OAI hood on it and the cooresponding air cleaner lid. It is a nice hood with a steel frame and a new aftermarket air cleaner lid I got the whole setup for $700. I am also going to paint the original hood to match.

The engine is a 10:1 455 with C heads that I pocket ported, removed the AIR humps, reduced the valve guide boss and cleaned up the valve-to-seat transition. I will be installing a hyd. cam with around 243/250 dur. at .05" and .545/.570 lift (approx. numbers). It would appear the Edlebrock torker is a better selection than the performer. I've considered offenhauser for the petina, but I doubt their manifolds perform as well. I don't know of any others available.

From what I have read, it appears most aftermarket intake manifolds are too high, with exception of maybe the performer. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I can get a manifold machined at a friend's machine shop or use a shorter Toronado style box. Those are the only solutions that I have researched.

i am no expert on performance but i think the performer has better down low power than the torker. i have heard several people on here like the performer better than the torker.

New Edelbrock Air Gap Intake Manifold

There is supposed to be a new Air Gap dual plane manifold from Edelbrock available March 1st. It will be shorter than the Torker, yet taller than the Performer. You can see it at the Edelbrock website if you look at the "New Products" then look for the download for the "brochoure"

It might be just what you are looking for to take advantage of your camshaft and heads.

The only aftermarket intake that fits is the Edelbrock O4B.

The air-gap,torker,performer,& port-o-sonic are all abouty the same height,& would require a special drop-base to use a factory style OAI top.Someone was or did make such a base, but I have no idea who.
The O4B is the only aftermarket intake that is stock height,& you can install all of the factory OAI parts with it.This is an obsolete intake that was made before the performer, but they do come up for sale on ebay,as well as other sites.

There are 2 versions - a Holley square bore and a Q-jet spread bore.

Yes,the O4B was offered with 2 different carb openings. One had a square bore style,& the othjer had a Q-jet,or spreadbore style. However, the squarebore style does have enough extra material that you can open it up like a spreadbore.I have done this before without problems.
