installing new lunati valve springs oldsmobile c heads
I am getting ready to install a new lunati cam 10420703, lifters, timing set, and there recommended double springs on my oldsmobile 400. My question relates to the springs and if I can just remove the the old springs and install the new ones or if there is machine work or other work that has to have done to the heads first before installing the springs. The heads are oldsmobile c heads. Any help would be appreciated.

I would ask the company, what the install height is. When you install them, and they are at that height, you should be good to go. If not you will have to shim them , or take to machine shop to machine, to be cut.
When installing double valve springs you must discard the factory valve stem seals as they are too large on the O.D. to fit within the inner valve spring. You may need to have the valve guides machined for special valve stem seals. Another consideration is the amount of clearance between the bottom of the valve spring retainer and the top of the valve stem seal of choice, approximately .060"is the minimum recommended; again machining may be required. Also, the factory rocker arm assembly may not like the amount of lift of the new camshaft thus requiring you to discard the factory style rocker assembly and replace with either a stud and guide plate style or a pedestal style replacement.
