how to build 455 with D heads and stock intake
Looking for ideas on building the motor. Right now it's a 69 F block with D heads, 69 cast exhaust manifolds and factory cast j intake. The block is factory no bore. What should I do for bore? Cam? Heads?
I want it to have some good thump at idle and get as much as I can without breaking the bank.
3.23 gears and a 2500 stall converter is what I have now.

You'll have to determine your budget and whether you want to keep it pump gas friendly or not. D heads are typically 72cc, whereas most BBO heads are 10cc larger. The better off the shelf pistons out there (Wiseco, CP, etc...) have a small dish that will push compression up into race gas territory.
With a 72cc head, 0.043" head gaskets, and 18cc dish pistons that are 0.010" down in the block, the compression ratio is still around 10.4:1. SRP makes the 18cc dish pistons, I haven't done much research for what else is out there...
I'm planning on mixing race gas in mine to help protect the original D head valve seats and run around 10.5:1 compression.
With that much compression, a fairly healthy cam won't be an issue, but you'll want enough vacuum for power brakes... you'll probably be looking at like a JM 22-25 or JM 3-4 if you want a shelf cam.
