horsepower rating game

What is the actual gross hp of the 70 442 hc 2.07 valve engine? Also the w-30 engine hp?
The toronado was 390 -400hp rated, with less cam I think, and a sunken intake. This makes no sense.

Actual vs claimed? You'd need to Dyno to get actual. Claimed rating is published.

Has anyone ran a stock spec 442 on a rear wheel dyno?

Been discussed here and in magazines many, many times. Factory HP ratings of that period are worthless. GM had a 10 lb per horsepower limit on the A-body cars. Do you think that it's a coincidence that the 1970 W-30 motors were rated at 370 HP when installed in a 3700 lb 442? Do the math.

Automotive writer Roger Huntington did a dyno test back in the day of then-new musclecar engines. The 1970 W-30 motor put out something like 440 HP in stock form that article.

I had the privilege of being present for a dyno session of a '67 W30 400cui engine. It was right on the mark of factory claimed HP.
