Help me with a budget Piston
Help me with a budget Piston
Hey guys
I'm gathering infos on a budget minded piston set for my virgin F block. stock rods.
what options do you recommend for a 93 octane driver.
Budget over performance since its basically a almost stock build with iron J heads and iron intake + a little 500-505 lift comp cam.
nothing special
I saw these at summit, any comment?

Pistons
I have a set of Silvolite pistons in my race car with zero problems. United Engine and Machine in Ca had .020 307 on the shelf. Cost was around 120.00 for 8, 4 years ago

I justed looked at catalog to make sure. They sponsor our Stock Super Stock Combo races here in Az. Mention that as I think they give discounts. I'm the only Olds running in that group here in Az. They should remember me. Jeff Stout

thanks I looked it up but I think they just deal through distributors? Not to end customers
se,
Very few manufacturers sell direct to the end user and when they do it is usually the most expensive alternative. Are you dealing with a machine shop ? If so see if they can get you a complete engine kit with all of the parts you will need. You will probably save at least 20% over buying everything separately. Any decent stock replacement piston should work for what you are doing. The forged ones you linked to are overkill.
I can look at some alternatives on Monday at the shop. Sealed Power has a stock replacement piston and I am sure that SIlvolite does too. Those are the two major brands for stock replacement pistons now days. Have you already purchased the camshaft ?
