So, ill start this as saying I am currently in Afghanistan, am making decent money and have a 84 cutlass Calais at home that I am wanting to drop a 455 in (my old mans place has a ton of olds blocks sitting around).
Current setup is
350 bored .40 over
mild cam
edelbrock 650
th400
chevy 12 bolt with 4.xx (don't remember as I haven't worked on it in over 5 years)
as you can imagine it isn't much of a highway cruiser lol
next setup looks like:
455
FAST efi carb
200r4
8.5 rear with 3.43s
Honestly my goal is to get into the mid to high 500's to the wheels with a decent amount of tq as well. Unfortunately I fell into the Honda game a while back (supercharged 2 liter running low 12s) and I want this car to....well be a lot faster than my 32 mpg dd lol
What it all boils down to is what are some major suggestions for this build? hoping to stay around 5k(all the tiny stuff like brackets, alternator, starter, oil pan etc are all easily sourcable from my father the hoarder) also the block and crank(if staying stock spec) are also sourcable. What heads/intake/cams/cp would you all suggest? I want the car streetable, yet the cars my Honda cant beat, I would like to beat easily with this car, it wont be my dd but will be used a lot on the street. Preferably reliable seeing as its going to have to make the 1200 mile drive to my duty station after i get back.
p.s. also knowing my addiction for power, I may end up adding a bit of spray down the road so was planning on forged pistons etc.

Yes it would be. But even that wouldn't give him anywhere near mid 500's at the wheels he's looking for.
Honestly for 5k you're not gonna come close to that number at the wheels unless you build a decent short block and find a used blower or turbo somewhere and plumb it yourself.
