Good Street/Strip camshaft olds 455
Hello! I have bought flowtech headers, edelbrock performance intake, Olds big valve c heads that i will leave at a local shop for milling etc.
Now before i put everything together im looking for a good street/strip cam. I havent found anyone in sweden that sells edelbrock cams for the 455 olds, but one company here sells lunati.
Can someone give me specs of a good cam for my engine setup?
Thanks in advance

You need to tell us
vehicle weight
converter specs
tire size
gear ratio
engine compression ratio
intake
All of those factors need to be known to make the best choice on a camshaft.

Converter: Stock, dont know. (But getting a new one in a month or two when im reinforcing the transmission)
Tire size: Dont know now, will get back to you on that. But its 15" inch rims, no fancy tires.
Gear ratio: Stock, dont know what it is.
Engine compression ratio: Stock, so 8.5 to 1?
Intake: Edelbrock performer

C heads
Hi Odmark, I cannot get the pics to download so here they are, the first are stock C heads, the second set is C heads modified for street/strip with stainless steel valves and some mild porting and the crossovers blocked and the intake and exhaust matched.

C heads more pics
Here are a few more pics. ON the camshaft I am trying to find the number for you and I will have it tomorrow because I am calling Dave at Lunati, I know him and there is a good cam for your application that will work really well with your combination. I have not had a lot of experience with Edelbrock cams, I have had a lot of comp cams and others over the years, one of my favorite for a mild street was the factory 294/296 475 lift cam it runs really well in your type setup. But Lunati has one that is similar and probably better! Dave

With 8.5:1 and a 5000#+ car you need to build/retain cylinder pressure.
The Lunati 06186, 268/268 adv duration, 218/218@.050 with .490 lift would be my first choice.
My second choice would be the 07181, 275/275 adv, 225/225@.050 with .508 lift. That's on a 108, the first one is on a 110 lsa. You need something tight and a single pattern to hold cylinder pressure and help move that land yacht of a car.
Btw the Edelbrock cams are generic copies. You can do much better than those.
Best of luck.

Got an email from them now and they said the 06186 was not manufactered anymore and said i should go with the LUN-10420286 instead. 3 week wait time though, not in stock.. same thing with the 07181

I can get it to you sooner if you like but it may be a few bucks more because I'm only shipping one cam vs a bunch. Let me know.
Thanks

Hello again guys. I was thinking about one more thing that i had forgotten, this winter im taking the engine out for a rebuild, and i am going for higher compression pistons etc.
So i would like to buy a cam more suited for the higher compression that i get after that right now, since winter is really not so far away, and it would suck to get a new camshaft again in a couple of months, if you know what i mean.
Do you have a good suggestion?

Are you going to change your rear end gears? The higher compression will make more power but you have to be sure to get 93+ octane fuel, I would ask Mark about which Pistons he would recommend and the cam to match he has alot of experience with some of the new pistons out there and probably could save you some money and time.

Yes im looking at that as well, my current rear and has no diff lock either.
We only have 95 and 98 octane here in sweden so that is no problem.
Okay, i will send him a PM about it. Thanks.

Depending on how you want to drive it as either a every day steet car or weekend driver and occasional drags, I would look at 3.23 every day driver or 3.73 or 3.91 weekend warrior. Either way you need a posi!! Then you can get some of that torque power to the pavement!
