gathering parts for engine rebuild 425? or 455?
I'm gathering parts for my engine build but feeling unsure if I should pause and spend more time educating myself. My engine has the casting number 386525A and "A" heads. As far as I know, it's the original stock engine from a 1965 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88. It had the "Ultra High Compression" badge on the air cleaner, so I assume it has a 10.25:1 compression ratio.
The "A" heads, from what I understand, have an 80cc chamber and are harder to source parts for. I also bought a set of "K" heads, which reportedly also have 80cc chambers but feature larger valves from a 455.
Additionally, I picked up a second block with the casting number 389244D. It has an .842" lifter bore and no visible drill spot (unless I'm missing something). Both blocks are 45-degree lifter angle versions, but I'm struggling to find a good source for cams that will work with these setups. getting a custom cam ground just sounds expensive. I guess I can look for used parts, but I also can just list these and find a 455 easier to find parts?
Any suggestion or information links to info would be much appreciated
