Did they ever make an engine block heater for the olds 455?
Are there any options I can use?
I remember seeing an in line coolant heater on the car I got my engine from but the guy kept it.
Anyone know where to find something like that that warms it up decently?

 

I worked at auto parts stores back in high school and college and our catalogs had block heaters that installed in a freeze plug port. Remove freeze plug, insert block heater. Don't know if those are still around or not.

 

There are a multitude of options available. There are heaters that go in one of the freeze plug holes. There are heaters that replace the dipstick. There are magnetic heaters that stick on the oil pan. And yes, there are heaters that splice into the radiator hose.

Unless you live in Frostbite Falls, you likely don't need one, however.

 

I used the inline heater hose heater on my first Vista many years ago. Just kept it plugged in when it was really cold. I would think that is about the easiest to install & works the best as it has a heater & pump so the whole cooling system stays warm. I'm sure you can find them at a local parts store or on ebay or maybe Amazon.

 

I was looking to install a block heater into my Daily Driver, an 09 Pontiac G8.

After a little research, I decided not to because (drum roll) it causes a CEL if the engine starts after sitting for xyz minutes and the coolant temp is warmer than the air inlet temp.

Sounds like the inline heater with pump is the easiest.
