What is the original finish/color of a distributor for a 69 442?
Mine appeared to be the natural cast with some bronze overspray.

maybe a paint daub of some sort to help visually discern one from another.

yep, thats right. there will also be a paint line or marker line drawn/painted near the casting number to, as chris points out, visually identify it. the assembly manual has the details on what color for which application.
