Deciphering 455 Code

I bought a 68 455 years ago as a core and am finally starting the rebuild process. The stamped code is 38X166763. I was told by the seller the engine was pulled from a Delmont, but I can't find any reference online to an X build location. Is this perhaps a service replacement block? I look forward to your feedback. Thanks.

"X" is Kansas City, KS & built full size (non-Toronado) Oldsmobiles (71,481 of them)

if "they" were accurate - the VIN would've been 3xxxx8X166763

there were 4 models in the Delmont 88 line-up (replaces the "xxxx" in the above VIN):
5439 - Delmont 88 Holiday Sedan
5467 - Delmont 88 Convertible
5469 - Delmont 88 Town Sedan
5487 - Delmont 88 Holiday Coupe

Which is why you should not rely on online sources for accurate information. Note that pretty much anything you find about Oldsmobiles online will only apply to 1968-72 A-body cars, and probably 80% of it will be incorrect.

Technically "X" was the Fairfax, KS assembly plant. There was also the Leeds plant (VIN code "K") located in Kansas City, MO.
