Choosing converter, rear end etc.
Hello! I need some help on choosing converter and rear end for my car, and maybe some expectaions on horsepower.
The car is a 73 custom cruiser, and right now this is the setup:
Stock bore 455 engine block
Stock crank
Stock pistons & rods
Ported Big Valve C Heads
Lunati cam Lift: .490"/.490" Dur@.050 218/218
Edelbrock 750 carb
Flowtech full lenght headers
Dual 3" Exhaust, no mufflers
Edelbrock performance intake
Thunder HEI distributor with 8mm accel cables
Edelbrock Air filter
Edelbrock true roller camchain
How many horses you think this will produce?
Now, to the converter. What size and what stall should i go for with this setup?
And rear end, going crazy over this 8.2 inch, 8.5 inch, 10 bolt etc.
What size axle does the 73 custom cruiser have? Abd what ratio should i go for?
And last, would it be worth upgrading to a edelbrock 800eps?

It's hard to make a recommendation on torque converter and rear gear ratio without knowing what you will be using the vehicle for. A hot street or strip car will have very different needs than a highway cruiser or trailer hauler.
So, give us details about what you will be using the wagon for.

I'd look at a Hugh's 2000 stall.
That's a BIG HEAVY CAR! As far as cam shaft goes that is rather reserved and is going to make its power from idle to about 4500rpm. Most likely your car has an 8 7/8(?) rear in it. Absolutely nothing available for it as far as gears are concerned. So you'll have to live with what you have. I have no idea what rears might interchange.

Okay. Gonna check that out.
Yes ive searched around some more and it seems its a 12 bolt 8 7/8 axle
Thats a bummer, well i guess ill just weld the one i have for now, to get the power down on the road.
And try and find a replacement axle later with a true differential.

Interesting car!! About a rear axle, anything to hot rod that stock rear isn't available. However, I ran across something a while back that might help. I scrapped a early/mid 70's big Ford wagon. Had a 9" rear in it and a 5x5 bolt pattern. also IIRC the Thunderbirds of the same era were 5x5 too.
DO NOT weld the rear if you plan on doing any time on city streets. The oh well weld it will turn into a lot of tires down the road if this car will not see much strip time. You can get her going straight out other ways.
