C Heads with V number

Hi,

I have a set of large valve "C" heads withn a V# stamped on one head.

They also have air injectors still in place.

Are these anyhthing special that someone could use during a resto, or should I just use them with my 1976 F block rebuild?

Thanks,

Tony

Believe those to be original for 66/67 442 application.
have buddy that has a 66 442 and he was very specific
about the V code on front boss on head ( only 1 side got
the code stamped on them of the pair.

Tony, those would be from a 1967 442 with the California Emissions A.I.R. system. If you find someone needing those for their car yes they would have more value to them than other big valve C heads. John

1967 442/Turnpike Cruiser with CA emissions. They could be worth some coin to the right person. Otherwise pretty much a standard 67-69 big-valve C.

Hi everyone,

They came on a 1965 400 engine I was going to rebuild.

Plans have changed and I was going to put them on my 455 build instead of the small valve J heads.

When I pulled them off the 400, I noticed the plugs on top off the exhaust ports. Looking into the ports I saw the tubes hanging down and figured they were for an air car. Flipped them over and saw the big valves, which really do look huge compared to the J heads valves.

If anyone wants to trade a set of edelbrocks LMK..................

Just kidding!

Hey Brian,

I,m up for a trade for another set of big valve C heads.
Just not sure about the shipping charges. I'm in the Denver area and have yet to take the block to the machine shop. So I'll just hold them for a while, let me know if you find someone that could use them.

Thanks,

Tony

I'll get the numbers in the next few days from the heads.

442scotty the 65 short block has one piston that is cracked, the bores have some scratches. Was going to bore .057 and use 350 pistons, It does have a forged manual crank, but no flywheel. LMK if you are interested in it.

So after a PM from Tweed stating that the production number V222232 should be followed by a suffix like "G".

I went back to the heads with a wire brush looking for this letter. Nope no letters.

After dropping a large 2" by 10" on my right big toe in the process (looks real ugly know). I was determined to find out more.

According to 442.com:

Prefix Number Year CID Notes V 001001 1965 400 442's V 100001 1966 400 442's V 200001 G 1967 400 4V 442's, including W-30 V 200002 1967 400 2V 442's, [etc.?] Turnpike Cruiser
So does V222232 make these heads from a 1967 400 2V 442 Turnpike Cruiser? They are definitely 2.072 intake valves with A.I.R. tubes.

The chart didn't show up correctly:

Congrats! You've now advanced to the rank of "Detective" -- You've found the answer! Turnpike cruisers are indeed rare birds in their own right! They were Cutlass badged bodies with a big block 400 2v engine. The only way to get a 400 in a non-442 in 1967! You can bet that someone is looking for these --- or will be --- I'd put them on a shelf and hang onto them and use another set of heads on your build!

The mystery of the climatic control air cleaner in the box of parts is also solved! It's in bad shape so I'm going to have it painted black with flames for some garage art.

Speaking of detectives they could order the '67 "A" bodies with a 400cid engine in a police car package. Henry

Henry --- you are CORRECT! And also it was same way in 68 they did a police package Cutlass A body with the 455 in it. This is actually what dispelled the rumors that said NO 455s were put in A bodies on Olds assembly line! That question arose when people were discussing whether the 68 HO had its 455 installed at factory or not until it got over to Demmers. Correct answer was the 455s WERE installed at Olds, thats why they had vin derivitive stamped on them.

Thanks to everyone on this learning experience!

It was fun.....except for my black and blue big toe!

Now if i can just convince the wife that a 67 Turnpike cruiser would make an excellent commute car............................................... ..............................
