C head

Just bought some 455 stuff and one head came with it,a C head with a stamped number on the end V207637G,would this be a 1967 head? And would it be any use to anyone. It's fresh from the machine shop with everything done. Thanks

That's a '67 4-4-2 head.

Probably someone who wants a correct original number will want it.

John, only the 442's sold in California would have the AIR holes drilled in them, the others would not. I may be interested in the head, I'll send you a PM.

All the pictures I've seen of the 1967 C heads have a tapped hole over each exhaust port,A.I.R. use,are there some without these holes?

Yes, clearly, as you have one.

ALL 67 W-30 442's had heads with A.I.R holes -- Plugged if not CALIF car. ALL California 67 442s came equipped with A.I.R.

Your head would be valuable as a W-30 head only if it had the correct "window period" casting date. Otherwise its just an ordinary C head.

The "experts" tell me that 340 or 341(Dec 6th) is the earliest possible cast date for the head to be considered a "W-30".

So, does the V------G engine number in this case designate a non-442 high-compression 400 (such as a police or station wagon engine), or are you saying that it is a counterfeit stamping?

No! No! No!! -- Not at all --- just saying that it cant be a W-30 --- IT IS a 67 442 400 head ( for any non-W-30 model). Yes its definitely a 67 442 head. Your V--G designats it a 67 -- rather than a C head from any other year or model -- and you have the "right" one too ---- From the factory, only 1 head gets that V code stamping -- the other side is blank on the stamping pad so theres no way to identify a "blank" one. Yours could be matched with a non-stamped one with a similar date code to be callled a "matched set" for a numbers correct engine.
Hope this clears it for your??

Okay.
I get it now. I missed the W-30 vs non-W-30 head distinction.

I'll remember that.

Thanks,

What all has been done to it? That will determine the value. I will have to look into my "stash" and see if i got a "mate" for it. If so, maybe we could get together on it!?

C head

Was told that the owner was away for five years and his father picked up some of the engine from the machine shop and what he picked up got 'LOST' except this head. What I purchased from him was still at the machine shop plus this head. I don't want to find a matching C head and make a pair.
