Busted motor mount

Busted motor mount
I'm getting ready to swap in the 455 I just built (fingers double crossed that it runs) so I pulled the small block yesterday. And even though I replaced the motor mounts four years ago, the driver's side mount was broken; sheered the rubber in half.
Is this common? Did I get a defective mount? Anyone have a recommendation for new mounts? I'm going to use the 350 pads so will want 350 mounts.

You can use a single or both solid motor mounts, I bought a pair a long time ago, surprisingly I had less engine vibration with the solids. Chrysler chassis manual recommends a least 1 rubber mount out of the 3 mounts (2 engine,1 trans) to take up vibration and prevent cracks.

Well since I'm hoping this 455 (461) has a wee bit more power than that tired 350, I'd better do something. The ad says "race engines only". Will it be okay on the interstate? You folks know how the wife likes to travel

That's a interesting idea. I have experience with today's cheap motor mounts myself.(junk) I never broke one but they have sagged causing the fan to hit shroud on both Olds'. I finally put polyurethane motor mounts in my 65 Dodge and it about rattled my fillings out. That car had a lumpy big block but I knew then that I would never want polyurethanes in my Olds.

Good info! I've been looking for poly but couldn't find any. And now, thanks to Greg, I know I don't want them anyway.
Copper suggested lag screws through the rubber on stock mounts for a semi-solid mount. Anyone ever try that? It's the hex-head that would worry me; they're pretty thick and would take up needed bouncy space in the mount.
