belt question

I have a 1974 455 out of a 98 olds. I am replacing belts. The motor had ac but i removed the brackets and compressor but i did not move the alternator or power steering pump. My problem is the belt they are calling for is extremely short. It isnt even long enough to allow the return hose off of the pump to clear the bottom of the bracket. Has anyone ever seen this before?

I put a 455 in my cutlass and removed the AC apparatus. The belt to replace was short and did not go around the balancer pulley. I had issues with belt squeal because there wasn't enough pulley to provide enough "bite" on the belt. I fixed this by measuring with twine to route a belt around the balancer. I believe the length was 58". I am using bracketry from the original 71 350 that came with the cutlass and don't know if it will work for your application.
