Any idea what this bolts is used for?

Hello, I took my starter out to install a new dipstick tube and saw a bolt screwed into my block. Does anyone know what this bolt is used for? I left it there when I bolted everything back up.

That may be for the starter brace. I'll try to find a picture of one installed.

OK, see the strap on the starter? I believe the other end bolts to the block in the location your bolt is in. John

That bolt is for the starter shield or brace...

Great, thank you. There was no brace on my starter but I'll check to see if it has the hole to secure the strap on it.
