Another project nearing completion

After about 2 months of putting it off, I'd finally had enough of the intake manifold gasket leak on my '72 Supreme.

So I buckled down and ordered a set of gaskets and started the teardown this past Thursday.

My buddy came over that afternoon and helped me with getting the gaskets on and setting the intake on. (Helpful tip: make sure you remove the rags before you set the intake on...we almost missed that important step...lol) For those that want to know, we used Permatex Ultra Grey around the water jackets and as well as the front and rear of the intake, and Indian head on the gaskets themselves.

Everything is all back together as of yesterday, and tomorrow we're dropping in the distributor and setting the timing.

Anxious to hit the key and call it done!

Setting that intake back on is a 2 person job for sure.

It's a Performer, so not so much the weight as the precision.

So I've read...I couldn't imagine taking it off by myself, let alone putting it back on if it were cast iron...jeez...lol

Yeah, my original iron 350 manifold tipped me over into the engine bay when I was leaning over the fender putting it back on by myself. That was in high school when I was a bit lighter than I am now, but a BBO manifold would still tip me over.

So my buddy Mike came over Wednesday and we dropped the distributor in and set the timing. Fired it up and still had an oil leak. We saw it was coming from the passenger side valve cover gasket. I swapped it out tonight and no joy.. still have a leak from somewhere. It's not the valve cover gasket...that's bone dry. My only guess is the oil filter housing gasket, so I'm gonna swap that out next. Arg...just when I thought it was good.

They sell it at nearly every automotive parts/supply store; or, continue guessing.

I hear ya Norm, but the problem is, I wouldn't be able to see the source even if I did use that.

Sorry, 100% disagree. Load up your parts cannon.

So turns out there was no leak. It was residual burn off that had soaked into the heat shield I wrapped around the header. Once I removed the heat shield, I was good
