Another 'newbie' here
Greetings and thank you for allowing me access to your site and forums. I hope I won't be chastised for driving a Trans Am BUT I run an Oldsmobile
power train. I have a '79 Trans Am with an Olds 403 but recently acquired a 455 to replace the 403.
The 455 is out of a '68 Olds 98 and the engine # is 396021 'F' and the head casting is 'C'. Everything I have found so far indicates there was 3 versions of the 4 barrel 455 for '68; 365hp, 385hp & 400hp. Is there anything that I can find to ID which one I have? Any of which is a huge increase over the stock 185hp 403
. Any help would be most appreciated.

Welcome to the site, someone with a 68 shop manual will chime in to answer your question. It also depends if the engine was original to the car it came out of and were any mods done to it by the original owner. Most likley it is the 365 hp version as that is the standard engine for the 68 98
