In looking over my 455 engine (just bought the car) it appears the some of the vacuum lines are missing per the 455 diagram I'm looking at!
The CTVS is not there, nor is the DTVS valve and the VRV valve. It does NOT have the original air cleaner either (just has a chrome circular unit) but the other lines I believe should be installed and those values connected!
The car runs and drives and I'd like to put this back to stock. Are all these pieces readily available?
When I bought my 75 W30, the EGR was long gone. It surged at idle and I made one attempt at overhauling the Q-Jet. I have overhauled a number of Q-Jets but the 75 is a one year only carb and it kicked my but. After I had it overhauled, it idled better but would still stumble at full throttle. I did away with all those TVS switches and ran full vacuum on my distributor. Problem solved. I know it should run on ported vacuum but that did not work. After that the car runs great and gets 11-12 MPG on the highway. I think the 75 Hurst W-30 was probably one of the most impractical cars you could probably buy that year.
Thanks for the info and I think I may just leave well enough alone. Prior owner probably stripped that all out (looks like a nightmare anyway). Rebuilding the carb is next but I'll have that done by a local guy. Thanks.
First, do you understand the function of all the vacuum switches? Understanding them will help you decide what to keep and what to leave disconnected or bypassed.
Armed with original part numbers you should be able to find NOS components. Some, like the DTVS and CTVS, may be available aftermarket NORS but look for a good name brand like Standard Motor Parts, Niehoff or similar. Those two are the ones I'd try to keep. The others, meh.
