70 factory 455 intake worth porting/polishing?
My 70 455 rocket came out of a station wagon back in 90 for my 68 Skylark convertible (no bb Buicks around; sold the car/parts last year). With the sheer volume in cubes, does it pay to port/polish the factory 4-barrel intake, or just better to find a good used aluminum one? Also, is there any significant gain with doing the same on the E heads? I have the kit from Eastwood, since I did my 70 351W heads for my 67 Cougar. Eric.

Hi Eric
If you go to aluminum you'll save some weight as the cast iron manifold is really heavy. I saw your other post asking for an aluminum manifold. Can you give us more details on what your looking for? If you don't match the cam to the rpm power band of the manifold you'll hurt your performance. So are you looking for a single plane, usually higher rpm power curve, or a dual plane which typically kicks in at lower rpm's. Then you said you were on a budget and couldn't spend too much, can you give a price range you can afford? I think you need to decide what you want the manifold to do so you'll know what would work best. Then throw out a price range and see if anybody has something in the corner of their garage they'd sell & ship for that price. I forgot to check, do you have your location posted? Shipping can add up if a package is going across the US/Canada border or overseas. John

Thanks for posting, John. Yeah should have been more specific. I'm looking for a dual plane around $100 plus shipping to 53086 (Slinger, WI). The cam/lifters/springs were all replaced with stockers, so may look for something a bit more than stock. I'll try to post some pics of the redone heads, along with my excellent paint job on the heads/covers, if I do say so myself.
