69 cutlass s 350 to 455

I am sorry I know you guys are probably sick of these but can anyone tell me the issues I will face going from my 350 to a 455? Thank you for your help on this. My car is a non a/c car and no power brakes if that matters. Pretty plain jane car. I have a turbo 350 in it now. The 455 is a mild build has a torker intake and a 850 sitting on that. My 350 is stock with a 2 barrel, manifolds and still the single exhaust. I will be upgrading to dual exhaust also so do I go with headers? Not sure what will fit. Motor mounts? Stick with the 350 mounts or go to 455 mounts? I just replaced my motor mounts a couple months ago.

Use the mounts you have. If you use 455 mounts you have to change the frame mounts. You will need headers or 455 manifolds. 455 manifolds are available reproduction. Transmission will bolt up but will need to be built up. If the power band of the cam in the 455 matches the Torker you will need a stall speed converter, which would then call for lower gears in the rear if you want the car to perform well.
All brackets & externals transfer over.

Thank you very much I put a different rear end in also 3.42 with posi already. I am hoping this will be fun to drive when done. The turbo 350 was rebuilt from the guy I got it from it was suppose to go behind a built 350.

Is there any brand headers for the 455 that will fit better than others on my car doing this swap?

If your looking for an awesome set of headers I know Oldzzy has a set of American Racing stainless steel BBO Headers that he can't use as his motor is a SBO and they were shipped to him by mistake , needs $1000 for them .

I have Hooker 1 7/8 headers on mine, they just about fall into place. Treat the 455 just like its a big 350, the motor mounts, accessory brackets and other parts bolt up just like on the 350. You will need longer belts, that about the only parts that wont interchange! Put a good shift kit in the trans, if its in good mechanical condition it will easily handle a mild 455. A good converter would be a excellent upgrade. You will need lots of tires, its going to be a fun car.

Make sure you swap the water pump(or get a new one for it....and COMPARE THE LENGTH OF THE NEW AND OLD ONE BEFORE YOU TURN IN THE CORE!!!!!) along with all of the pulleys from the 350. And don't loose the spacer from the lower power steering bracket on the side of the block or the pulley will be out of alignment.

350 to 455

I changed from a 350 to a 455 in my 69 Cutlass. The only problem I have is keeping it at the speed limit.. I did put on hooker headers. They fit right in. Car sounds great. Runs really well and I catch rubber in all 4 gears.
