67 442

I just recently got my 67, havnt really started working on it yet. I was looking under it yesterday and noticed that the oil pan is almost touching the center link. Its very dirty and greasy, but even if i clean it i think there wont be anymore than 1/16- 1/8th clearance. The motor mounts ar old i can see the rubber is cracked some from age. Could it be the motor mounts are just sagging, so the motor has dropped down some? How much clearance should there be? If this motor has ever been out of the car it was very long ago i think. It is VERY dirty and greasy. Im under the impression it has never been out of the car or it was long ago. Also noticed the drivers side spring is broken, it has the wrong ex. manifold on the drivers side which is touching the frame. the ex pipe will not mate up to it which is probably why it was wired up when i bought it. So i need a correct X manifold as well. Im concerned about the clearance ? problem with the center link. Could it be just old tired motor mounts? Or possibley someone put the wrong frame mounts on it as sometime.
Any thoughts would be helpful
Thanks
Steve W.

You should have more clearance that that on your center link. Chances are your engine mounts have collapsed and need the same kind of attention your spring/suspension does.

I'm not all that familiar with 67 front end, but it can't be all that different from my 72. Basically all the same parts

It's the motor mounts. Get Anchor 2261s and you'll see the difference. Also, verify that the steering linkage isn't bent or worn, either.

Joe,
Summit shows anchor 2261 as small block and 2328 as big block.
Will they both work ?
I am swapping out my 330 for a 455 on my 67 Cutlass Supreme

Summit also claims that headers don't fit Supremes.

With the original frame mounts in ANY 1967 Cutlass or 442, use 2261 motor mounts with ANY 1964-90 Olds V8. See this thread for more details. The motor mounts need to match the frame mounts, NOT the engine.

I see you've been asked this before :
"Do NOT use the catalog lookup feature for these, as in many cases the listings are incorrect."

LMAO on Summit headers not fitting Cutlass Supreme...I noticed that too when I was contemplating headers and was thinking wtf.

I just ordered the W and Z manifolds from Thorntons on your recommendation.
Thanks Joe , youv'e been a big help for me.

Can we organize an email barrage to Summit and convince them to stop perpetrating the Supreme Headers Myth?

LMAO....I wonder how many they DIDN'T sell because of that.
Although I'm sure most people know there is no difference.

And yet, every Olds forum gets this question about once a month...

In any case, good luck with the write-in campaign. I've tried this with several header manufacturers and all I get is a form letter that says thanks for your input, but we know better. Distributors like Summit simply repeat what the manufacturers tell them.
