371 engine , changing leaking sump gskt, found this in bottom of sump . Is not metal ..phew ... is easy to break and feels like bakerlite or really gone hard rubber ....any suggestions on what to check before reassembly please

went and had lunch , come back ...cleaned sump up and it had been put together with heaps of gasket shellack that had gone rock hard and has been breaking off into sump ...crisis averted 👍👍👍😊
