...thought i posted yesterday but cant find it.
Good as the car looks it's likely the engine is not as stuck as you fear. Don't try and turn the engine using the crankshaft bolt like Chevy owners often do. The Oldsmobile bolt is plenty big but you cannot exert the leverage needed to break the assembly free. Instead, remove the small inspection plate from the bottom of the starter housing casting, then use the wide end of a Stanley pry bar against the ring gear teeth on the flywheel back and forth. Often with these it takes very little to break it free, but one of my 303's required about one full turn of crankshaft to free it up. If you wish, remove the starter casting and pry against the block mounting surface for that casting, just another way to do it. Once it is free, then spin engine with starter and spark plugs removed to build initial oil pressure. Then drain oil now containing your Kroil, etc and replace with new fresh oil before starting. I only replace the oil filter after the engine has run for a short time with a second oil change.
I like to use the air line spark plug hole adapter from my compression tester and add high pressure air to any of the oiled cylinders which have closed valves to force lube down through the ring stack. You can do this for all cylinders as the crank rotates. Good luck.
If those last two are questions, the answer to both is yes. You will need to pull the transmission (heavy) and the engine (heavy) together. Yes the engine will be expensive to rebuild. There are something like 24 bolts attaching the taurus cover to the engine. If you are unable to free the engine the big problem you face is getting the transmission disconnected from the engine. I would keep soaking it and get a long pipe to put on your breaker handle to turn the engine. Try adding some acetone to the ATF (50/50 mixture). This job will be lots easier if you get the engine to turn.
...well, soaked a couple times for couple months!
- trying using lever on flywheel... but cant get bite...and no movement
- of course, the front crank bolt wants to break off if i even touch it with a breaker bar!
- looked in cylinders and see some Orange rust...
- hoping to find somplace "local" that has at least touched a 324 b4! original burlap under radiator!
Where are you on I81 in Virginia? There are several AACA groups along I81 and these folks will know of reputable shops to fix your engine. www.aaca.org and search chapters. Offhand I can think of Shenandoah (Winchester), Tri-County (Broadway) and Roanoke Valley (Roanoke).
